Sixth Form visit Iceland

Field Trips Rock!!!

Field Trips Rock!

Christ the King Sixth Form students taking various sciences and geography were able to experience first-hand the wonders of Iceland. After an early start and arriving in Keflavik students relaxed in the geothermal pool of the Blue Lagoon before exploring Reykjavik. The second day saw the party of 24 students from Year 12 and 13, along with their teachers, embark on the Golden Circle tour;

this consisted of the Strokkur Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, Hellisheiðarvirkjun turbine and Thingvellir National Park.

Enriching student’s learning didn’t stop there, as on the final day, the group walked along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara and visited the village of Vík where all of its 300 inhabitants are trained in evacuation procedures, being that they are positioned by the active Katla volcano beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. To cap it all off, searching for the Northern lights was made all

the more pleasurable by the very knowledgeable tour guide, Gunnarr who loved Iceland more than Iceland loves itself. This was not just any old field trip. This was one that warmed the cockles of our hearts and will last in memory for a long time to come.
