Head Teachers Blog

Hello and welcome to my final blog of the school year. It’s good to see that summer has finally arrived up north and we have been looking forward to our seasonal traditions such as our Summer Concert (Midsummer Madness - an evening of Music, Dance and Drama) which was held on 7 July and Sports Day which is scheduled for 16 July (weather permitting!) The summer concert was a wonderful evening - thank you to everyone who came along to support our talented pupils.

Here at Christ the King, we don’t believe in winding down for summer and our staff are continuing to run trips to enrich the academic life of our pupils. On 18 June Miss Taylor took some of our Year 12 Technology students to a fashion show at Liverpool College and on 22 June Miss Stock, Mr Weaver and Miss McKean took some very excited pupils to Avila in Spain. It was reported to me that the children behaved impeccably and had a great time - in fact, they even asked for extra Spanish lessons!

The Duke of Edinburgh expeditions began on 27 June and, so far, the weather has been favourable. As most of these take place over weekends, I am very thankful to Mr Wilson (D of E Coordinator) and all the other staff who give up their free time to allow our pupils to take part in this award scheme.

Congratulations to Brendan Walker, Year 7 who won the Sefton Super Reads award at the ceremony on 16 June for best book review for Tinder by Sally Gardner.

On 19 June some of our pupils took part in the Wally Cain Festival at Southport Theatre. The theme this year was ‘Famous Landmarks’ and our pupils performed a medley of dances from Hollywood organised by Kerry Summers White and Natasha Newell. This was performed again at Sefton’s Seaside Celebration on 14 July at the Wayfarers Arcade along with a ‘flash mob’ dance choreographed by Miss Newell.

We have now come to the end of the summer examination series, which I am happy to report went smoothly thanks to the wonderful organisational skills of our Examinations Officer, Miss Magill. I would like to wish all our pupils the very best of luck for results day and I hope they get the grades they deserve. We have held leavers’ Masses/assemblies and leavers’ do’s for Year 11s and Year 13s and we will be very sorry to see them go. However, I wish them all the very best wishes for the future (and I hope to see many of our Year 11s back with us in the Sixth Form in September!)

Pupils finish at 12 noon on Tuesday 21st July and pupils may come to school in mufti. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £1 per pupil which will go towards our whole-school charity, Queenscourt Hospice. We return on Thursday 3 September and our new Year 7 intake will start at the normal time of 8.40 am. Pupils in Years 8 to 11 must be on site between 11.10 am and 11.25 am ready to go into their form groups.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very enjoyable summer.
