Progression/Higher Education Information Session for Year 12 Parents
This took place on Tuesday 9th June 2015 at 7pm. The aim of the evening was to introduce parents of Year 12 students to the options available post-18, to provide an overview of employment/apprenticeship opportunities, the university application process, Student Finance and a general discussion of the advice and guidance available. Presentations on these areas were given by Simon Blundell , Ms Stead (Head of Sixth Form) and Sophie Barraet - Kai (Edge Hill University).
The evening was part of our three day 'Your Future' event when we start seriously researching Higher Education (university and college) courses for entry in 2016. Additionally advice and support is given to those wanting to enter directly into employment.
The programme for the three days is outlined below:
Tuesday 9th June Your Future Day 1. All students will be involved in workshops/sessions in school to explore the different post-18 alternatives.
Progression evening for Parents of Year 12 students. This will be an opportunity to find out about the options available post-18, the HE application process (UCAS), Student Finance and how to support students at this time.
Wednesday 10th June Your Future Day 2. A full day visit to Liverpool University for the Merseyside HE Convention (with representatives from many British universities and presentations on subject options). There will be no Sixth Form lessons in school on this day to allow all students to attend the conference.
Thursday 11th June Your Future Day 3. Sixth Form HE day in school (representatives from local HE Institutions, with workshops and presentations for all students).
