Welcome to Computing
KS4
Option
The Computing Department teaches students how to develop computational thinking and effectively use computer-based technologies and applications.
Although there is a lot of practical work in the subject, Computing is not just about using computers. It’s also about being able to seek solutions to problems and apply them in a systematic way.
In key stage 3, pupils learn about three strands of Computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
In key stages 4 and 5, students can choose to follow courses where the emphasis is on one strand. In courses centred on Information Technology, they will learn how to use a wide variety of computer applications. In courses which focus on Computer Science, students will learn how to think like computer scientists. They will learn how computers are able process data by following specific instructions and they will learn how to solve problems using computers, by writing their own programs.
