You may already have heard, via other sources, that our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Morrissey, has decided to retire at the end of this academic year. His retirement is well deserved after a long career dedicated to Christ the King School. We wish him a long and happy retirement.
It does mean that we have a vacancy for a Deputy Headteacher with effect from September 2015. We have a wealth of talent within the Senior Leadership Team at the school and, with the approval of the Archdiocese, we are inviting applications only from qualifying internal candidates on this occasion. We hope to announce Mr Morrissey’s successor in early May.
It has been a busy few months for the Governors. We have undertaken our usual business of committee meetings, link Governor meetings with departments and a meeting with the School Council. Given the increase in the size of the Sixth Form over the last 2 years, a new committee has been formed with a specific remit to consider issues specific to the Sixth Form. We have also met separately with the Sixth Form Student Council.
Apart from the usual business, we have been heavily involved in reviewing the constitution of the Governing Body in the light of the 2012 Education Act. One significant change is that we can only have one elected Staff Governor, as opposed to the three we have at present. Currently, the constitution provides for 16 governors, being representatives from staff, parents and the Local Authority plus 9 Foundation Governors, appointed by the Archdiocese. The proposed new constitution will see the number reduce to 14, with only 8 Foundation Governors. The number of elected Parent Governors is to remain at two and we think that there is likely to be a vacancy for a Parent Governor, with an election being required in the Autumn Term. Once the revised constitution is ratified by Sefton Council, a copy will be available on the school website.
In August 2013, Mrs Rita Rimmer stood down as the representative for Sefton after 27 years on the Governing Body. Since then, we have not had a Local Authority Governor. I am now pleased to announce that Sefton has appointed Mr Jose Mendoza as their representative.
If there is anything you would like to raise, or if you have any comments for the governors, please email: clerktogovernors@christtheking-school.com.
Thank you. Alan Rayner – Chair of Governors
