Everest Base Camp

During the Easter break, while the rest of you are gorging on Easter eggs, Ms Reid and Mr Pinnington will spend most of the 2 weeks gasping for oxygen. They will be flying to Kathmandu, Nepal in order to attempt the gruelling 13 day trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp. Ascending to high altitudes from 9,000 to 18,000 feet (3,400 to 5,500 metres), it will be a tough physical and mental challenge and, if they survive the flight onto the world’s most dangerous landing strip, other dangers include altitude sickness, hypothermia, sub-zero temperatures, Maoist separatists and aggressive yaks.
What are they hoping to achieve? I don’t need to explain to any of you about the amazing work done at Queenscourt Hospice. What you may not know is that in recent years, 4 of our serving colleagues and friends, Joanna Humphreys (English, Head of Media), Andy Colton (Spanish, Deputy Head), Ian Hutchinson (Head of Humanities) and Mary Bennett (Head of Chemistry) died of cancer. Three were cared for by the staff at Queenscourt and many of us here at Christ the King experienced first hand their amazing commitment and dedication to our colleagues and their families. We know this is a place that touches many lives across Southport.
Mr Pinnington and Ms Reid would like to use their challenge to raise money for the hospice. If you can sponsor them please access the link below. Thank you.
