Film and Media

There are two offerings to prospective Sixth Form students :

Film Studies

After a brief introduction to the history of film you will study the development of narrative structure and generic conventions. You will also study the practical considerations of film producers and their audiences and understand the business of film making. We will look in depth at underlying political and social messages of film. You will study some of the theoretical writing related to Spectatorship. At A2 level you will research the work of an auteur (director) of your choice. You will analyse World Cinema and the rise of Hollywood as the dominant form, as well as emotional response to film.

Media Studies

Media Studies is an opportunity to study a wide range of media texts from film, television and radio to the internet. You will develop a range of skills which will enable you to analyse, explore and discuss the media, whilst also producing practical work.

We follow the WJEC Specifications for AS and A2 Level.
