


GCSE PE – EDEXCEL

What will I study?
Practical Performance: This section is worth 60% of the marks. All candidates have to select FOUR activities from at least TWO of the areas shown.

- Outwitting an opponent i.e. games
- Accurate replication of actions, phases and sequences i.e. Gym, swimming
- Exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions i.e. dance
- Performing at maximum levels i.e. Athletics, Golf
- Identifying and solving problems of an adventurous nature i.e. Outdoor adventurous activities
Academic written paper: This is worth 40% of the overall marks and is examined by ONE written examination of 1hr 30 at the end of the course in May 2013. The exam will comprise of multiple choice, short answers and longer answers
Theory content: Unit 1 – Healthy active lifestyles
Unit 2 – Your healthy, active body
The examination has a one Tier entry for all candidates covering the whole range of GCSE grades (A* - G)
Due to the practical nature of the course, a high standard of practical ability is important. If the course is oversubscribed then preference will be given to pupils who have performed to the highest standard throughout year 9
