


Applied ICT
You will study the effects of ICT on our lives and you will learn how to use ICT tools such as spreadsheets and databases to solve problems within businesses and other organisations. You will also learn how to produce ICT presentations that interact in an engaging manner with the user.
How will I be assessed?
Units 1 and 2 are assessed through coursework assignments. In each case you will produce an electronic portfolio (e-portfolio) of evidence to demonstrate your understanding. They will be assessed by your teachers and moderated by the exam board.
Unit 3 will be assessed by examination. It is a two and a half hour practical exam done on a computer under examination conditions. You are given a scenario, a spreadsheet model and some sample data several weeks in advance and you are given opportunities to familiarise yourself with it in class before the exam.
A2 LEVEL
Units 8 and 10 are assessed through coursework assignments. In each case you will produce an e-portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your understanding. They will be assessed by your teachers and moderated by the exam board.
Unit 7 will be assessed by examination. It is a ten hour practical exam done a computer under examination conditions, over several sessions, over a period of several days. You are given a scenario, and some sample data several weeks in advance and you are given opportunities to familiarise yourself with it in class before the exam.

Career Opportunities
The qualification will provide you with the ideal foundation for proceeding on to a higher ICT course at university or for entering a career in ICT. It also helps you to develop skills that could be applied in any situation that requires the use of computers to help to solve organisational problems.
