What will I study?

Year 10 – During the course of the year the students will study two units.  Unit 2 is a course work unit, which is worth 20% of the final GCSE grade.  The students undertake this in school over a period of 7 hours supervised time.  The course work is based around a research task that is set by the examination board and will be completed within the classroom.

Sections of unit 1 are studied throughout year 10, this unit allows students to gain all relevant subject knowledge to prepare for the course work in year 11 and for the examination.

Year 11 – The students’ spend the majority of the year focused on unit 3, which is the child study.  The child study is completed over a period of 6 months, beginning in the September of Year 11 and ending the following February.  The Child Study (Unit 3) is a more complex, larger unit which focuses on students’ observation skills and evaluation of their observations. It also allows students’ the opportunity to provide personal opinions. The child study will form 40% of the final GCSE.  Along with this the students will also prepare for the written examination (unit 1).  Revising and developing examination techniques to allow them to achieve the highest grade they possibly can.
