Health and Social Care - Single Award

 

During your course, you will study six units which will include Human Growth & Development, Communication, Care Environments, Health Promotion, Meeting Individual Needs and Investigating Disease. Opportunities will be provided for you to undertake work experience in an area of Health and Social Care which is of personal interest to you, that you will arrange yourself. Work experience is a very valuable learning experience as it will permit you to put theory into practice and will give you the opportunity to work in a variety of care settings such as nursing homes, day centres and health clinics. Your course will also help you to develop skills in Communication, Application of Number, and Information Technology. Key skills form the foundation of education, work and everyday living. They will give you the confidence to make decisions, carry out tasks effectively, work well with others and adapt to a variety of situations - all skills which are vital for the world of work and which employers are looking for.

 

How will I be assessed?

 

4 units are assessed by assignment based work which is set to meet the unit criteria. 2 units will be externally tested through written examinations which are 90 minutes duration.

Career Opportunities

 

A 6 unit GCE Advanced Award in Health and Social Care is designed to give you knowledge, skills and understanding for work or further study in a broad range of occupational areas. You may decide to move straight into employment in occupations such as auxiliary nurse, care assistant, nursery nurse, dental nurse, dispensing assistant, receptionist, community support worker or classroom assistant. Career opportunities in the caring sector are diverse and expanding.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Health & Social care - Double Award

 

During your course, you will study 12 units – which focus on four specialist areas: Health, Early Years (Care & Education), Care of older people and individuals with specific needs. Opportunities will be provided for you to undertake work experience in an area of Health and Social Care which is of personal interest to you, which should be arranged by you.

Work experience is a very valuable learning experience as it will permit you to put theory into practice and it will give you the opportunity to work in a variety of care settings e.g. hospital pathology laboratories, social services, residential homes etc. Your course will also enable you to develop Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Information Technology. Key Skills form the foundation of education, work and everyday living. They will give you the confidence to make decisions, carry out tasks effectively, work well with others and adapt to a variety of situations - all skills which are vital for the world of work and which university admissions tutors are demanding.

 

How will I be assessed?

 

8 units are assessed by assignment based work which is set to meet the unit criteria. You will produce a portfolio of evidence throughout the course which contributes to two thirds of the assessment grading. One third (4 units) will be externally assessed through written examinations which last 90 minutes.

Career Opportunities

 

A Double 12 unit GCE award in Health and Social Care at Advanced Level is designed to give you knowledge, skills and understanding for work or further study in a broad range of occupational areas. You may decide to move onto a diploma or degree course at university or college to gain professional qualifications for careers such as Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Teaching or study subjects in Biological Science, Psychology, Health Studies, Childhood Studies, Youth Work etc.
