There are four offerings for prospective Sixth Form students :
Biology
Christ the King has been successfully teaching the “new style” A Level for 8 years. The content has been radically updated to provide an emphasis upon more relevant and modern Biology. This means less work on plants, for example, than is usually the case, and a lot more content to do with the human body, medial aspects of Biology, forensic science etc. The entire course is supported by attractive materials available just to students of the course on a dedicated website. This means that interactive presentations seen in class can be viewed again from home.
Chemistry
Chemists have greatly improved the quality of life for the majority of people, whether it is through the discovery of new life saving pharmaceuticals or through the research and development of new environmentally friendly fuels. The AQA Specification is underpinned by recognition of How Science Works, to show Chemists as innovators, designing solutions to the problems that affect modern life. It recognises the contribution Chemists make to everyday lives. Chemistry is inherently a practical subject and, in-line with QCA's requirements; two units will be teacher based assessment. At AS, it is appreciated that many students have a slow start due to the transition from GCSE. Unit 1 is small enough to be taught by January. After the Christmas break, students usually learn faster, having adapted to the mindset of AS, so Unit 2 is larger and carries a greater UMS weighting. Both units will be assessed in June. At A2 the structure is as flexible as possible. Units 4 and 5 have equal weighting, with a synoptic element from AS Level. Unit 4 will be taught by January and Unit 5 will be taught after the Christmas break. Pupils will sit both exams in June.
Physics
Physics is a key part of Science and Technology and deals with why things behave as they do. It is concerned with things that vary in size from atoms to galaxies and tries to answer the questions - 'How does it work?' and 'Why does it work?' At its most fundamental, Physics concerns itself with the laws and phenomena that govern nature itself. Physicists and Engineers have a career choice that offers a wide range of careers with skills that are massively in demand. The problem solving and analytical skills are needed to solve the issues that are of a concern to society. Engineers have to solve problems to make something easier or quicker, this is always needed and as a result a well qualified Physicist or Engineer can become very well paid.

Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma
The qualification will give an understanding of the essential skills and attitudes to begin a professional career or move on to further education. Employment opportunities available to science technicians will be highlighted, so that you can progress into a specific area of work, and if already in employment, move on to a more responsible job within the industry. Over the two years pupils will undertake practical tasks and research tasks that will give them an overview into many different areas of Science. All three Sciences are well covered. This is an option that would suit someone who wanted to keep going with their studies in all three Sciences who does not want to specialise in one area and look at Science in a more vocational work related way.
