Head of Sixthform
Ms A Stead

There are two offerings for prospective Sixth Form students :

Mathematics
First Year (AS Year)
The course follows the Edexcel Syllabus (8450) and is broken into 3 modules – Core Mathematics 1 and 2 together with Mechanics or Statistics. The Core module builds upon the Mathematics done at GCSE level, including algebra, sequences and trigonometry but develops an understanding of some higher level topics. Mechanics and Statistics explore a number of real world problems which can be solved with Mathematics.

Second Year (A Level year)
In this year you will again study three modules: two further modules of Core Mathematics and one of either Mechanics, Statistics, or Decision Maths.

Further Maths
We offer an A Level course in Further Mathematics in addition to the A Level in Mathematics. As the content of the single subject Mathematics has been reduced, this course is a really exciting opportunity for those students that wish to take the ideas and concepts of Mathematics a stage further and who enjoy the twists and turns of Mathematical exploration. The course is designed for those who:

•Find sufficient enjoyment in Mathematics to wish to develop the subject beyond the usual A-level extent and depth.
•Want to keep open the option of pursuing a Higher Education course in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Economics.
•May wish to sit Oxford or Cambridge University Entrance for Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Engineering or Economics, and therefore need to take a paper (or papers) in Mathematics
